How to Cook Delicious Rice

① Measuring your rice

Level off the rice in the measuring cup and put it in a bowl.

② Rinsing the rice

Please pour out the first water quickly so that the rice does not absorb the odor from the rice bran.

*This rinsing process should be done before washing the rice in order to remove the rice bran and dust from the rice’s surface.

③ Washing the rice

Gently wash the rice while stirring it by hand with the water drained. Repeat this about two to three times until the water is clear.

Because of today’s advanced rice milling technology, there is no need to wash the rice as harshly and thoroughly as in the past.

Amount of water to add:
After washing the rice, move it to a strainer to drain off the water and put it in the inner pot of the rice cooker. The appropriate amount of water is one cup water for one cup of rice. However, please adjust the water amount according to the rice types and your preference for the rice’s hardness.

* For brown rice, please add one-and-a-half cups of water.

④ Presoaking in water

Please soak the rice in water for at least 30 minutes to allow it to absorb enough water before cooking.
The rice tastes better by doing this.

* For brown rice, please soak it for two to eight hours ( The longer you soak it, the softer it becomes. )

⑤ Cooking

If you have a rice cooker, please turn it on.
When cooking in a pot instead, please follow these instructions:

① Put the lid on the pot and start cooking it over medium heat.
② After it begins to boil, keep boiling it for two minutes.
③ Lower the heat a little and boil it for three minutes.
④ Turn the heat to low and boil it for five to seven minutes.

*For brown rice: Boil the rice over medium heat without a lid. Remove the scum, put a lid on the pot and cook for 45 to 55 minutes over low heat.

⑥ Steaming

In order to spread the moisture to each rice grain evenly, please do not open the lid even after finishing cooking the rice. After it finishes cooking, please leave the rice without opening the lid for five to ten minutes to steam it.

*Some rice cookers have a built in steaming process.

⑦ Stirring

Stir it as if you were digging up from the bottom of the pot while taking care not to crush the rice grains.
By exposing the rice to the cold air and letting out the vapor from the rice’s surface, you can make chewy, glossy rice that is transparent.

*Please adjust the amount of water, soaking time and steaming time according to your rice cooker.
