Kamiakari(カミアカリ)
Giant-Germ Japonica Rice from Ina, Nagano — Naturally Farmed, Deeply Expressive
Kamiakari (カミアカリ) is a rare Japanese rice grown in Hase, Ina City, Nagano Prefecture, at the rice farm Hase. Closely related to Koshihikari, it is defined by its giant germ (胚芽)—three to four times larger than that of ordinary brown rice—which gives this rice its distinctive texture, flavor, and character.
The Farm — the rice farm Hase
Located in the mountainous Hase area, surrounded by the Southern Alps, the rice farm Hase benefits from clean mountain water, clear air, and large day–night temperature differences. Established as Japan’s first overseas export–focused rice farm, it emphasizes transparency and traditional rice culture. More about their philosophy and fields can be found at our official website.
Natural Farming(自然栽培)
Kamiakari is grown using 自然栽培:
-
No chemical fertilizers
-
No pesticides
By prioritizing soil vitality and natural growth, the rice develops slowly and honestly. This approach is essential—the giant germ forms fully only when the plant is not pushed.
Taste & Texture
-
First bite: the giant germ bursts with impact
-
Mid-palate: clear, natural sweetness
-
Finish: savory rice flavor with lingering umami
Firm, expressive, and deeply satisfying.
Brown Rice Only
Kamiakari is available exclusively as brown rice (玄米).
Milling removes the germ—and the germ is the essence of Kamiakari. Keeping it unmilled preserves its flavor, texture, and identity.
